On Sept. 21, 1956, an F-11F “Tiger” aircraft, piloted by Grumman test pilot Tom Attridge, shoots itself down while conducting firing tests over eastern Long Island, N.Y. The plane runs into 20-mm projectiles, fired seconds before at a higher altitude but slowed down by the atmosphere, which proves in that rare instance, the F-11 is faster than a speeding bullet. Attridge crash lands and is injured, but survives the ordeal.” More here.

Did you know? In 2001, the then Canadian Prime Minister (PM), Jean Chretien, did not know that Canada’s elite Special Operation Forces, Joint Task Force 2 (JTF2), had deployed and were engaging enemy forces in Afghanistan (OEF).
It wasn’t until news reports several months later, showing the distinctive forest-green Canadian Forces combat uniform, that Chretien and the Canadian public were first aware of JTF2’s involvement of OEF.
